Lest We Remember: Cold Boot Attacks on Encryption Keys

Scientists at Princeton have found a new way to hack into a PC and get information.

They use the method of extracting important information from the DRAM (the memory of the PC, which is supposed to be empty when a PC is switched off).

DRAM stores the data in Capacitors which need to be regularly refreshed the keep the memory intact. When power is cut, the memory goes on fading within seconds.

By keeping the RAM very cold, the data can be preserved upto 10 minutes !!!

Check Princeton site for details. The video is awesome :)
