Raj Thackeray gets bail

The chief of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), Raj Thackerey is no longer in arrest, as he has been granted bail by the court of metropolitian magistrate at Vikhroli. It is a conditional bail on surety of Rs. 15,000. The hearing lasted for 2 hours.

Raj Thackeray was arrested on the afternoon of wednesday from his residence in central mumbai, under Section 153, 153A and 117 of IPC (Indian Penal Code) for promoting hatred between communities on the basis of residense, birth place with an intention of causing riots. His remarks against North Indian migrants had lead to incidents of violence in Maharashtra over the past 6-7 days.

MNS activists were protesting outside court during the hearing. They forced closing of shops in Nashik, Worli.

"Arrest was unnecessary", said MNS spokesperson.

The leader of Samajwadi Party, Abu Asim Azmi has been also granted bail. He was arrested earlier on wednesday under similiar charges.
